When it comes to my personal, everyday work, an important part is documenting my adventures and sharing content to Instagram or other platforms. The iPhone is starting to be my go-to and has been for years. It’s hard to beat the small size that fits in your pocket — especially because it has three cameras in one and now shoots RAW. There have been so many times when traveling in the past couple of years when I have my Canon plus a big lens wrapped around my neck and I am just pushing it to the side so I can get in tight with my iPhone. I won’t be putting my Canon to sleep just yet, but I am pretty impressed with how far Apple is pushing the limits.

The Matanuska Glacier is one of my favorite places in Alaska. I’ve visited the glacier about a dozen times, and this year I finally visited in winter! Exploring Matanuska is both serene and exhilarating. It’s like stepping into another world, with beautiful blue sculptures of ice rising from the frozen landscape.

The Matanuska Glacier is accessible by car, right off the Glenn Highway about a two-hour drive from Anchorage. I recommend hiring a guide so you can safely explore deep into the ice, which may seem stable but is constantly shifting. Like most glaciers worldwide, Matanuska has been retreating for decades because of climate change. Glaciologists say that Matanuska has been steadily shrinking approximately 32 feet (10 meters) annually since the 1960s. I hope we can make widespread societal changes to live harmoniously with the Earth so places like this can be appreciated generations from now.
